Our amazing care team

At the heart of Norwood Grange Care Home in Sheffield is our amazing team of carers. We’re aware that our team plays a very important role in the welfare and happiness of our residents - a responsibility we take extremely seriously.

For that reason, we pick our team carefully, focussing on core values, personality, compassion and passion for the role to ensure that we have a dedicated team of people who have an innate ability to care for others.

Unlike many care homes in the Sheffield and South Yorkshire area, our staff turnover is very low. Our team is strong and stable. The majority of our carers have been with us for many years.

This means that our residents are cared for by a highly skilled, highly trained, expert team who have vast experience of caring for the needs of those in their later years. More importantly, they will become trusted friends and companions who can support both physical and mental wellbeing.

Social care training and development

We train our team to ensure that they have the skills and understanding, as well as key social care qualifications. New team members undertake a full induction as well as a number of weeks shadowing an experienced team member. As well as ensuring they understand our processes, this allows each resident and carer to get to know each other well before they work a shift alone.

We also focus on ongoing training and development for our team, ensuring that existing team members have access to the latest training. This ensures that we’re always following the latest guidance and tweaking our approach to ensure that we’re following best practice in - particularly in our specialist area of dementia care.

Our extended multidisciplinary team

We believe in offering a holistic approach to care. To achieve this, we have built strong relationships with local practitioners to create a multidisciplinary team that offers a range of skills to meet changing needs. This includes:

  • Our local GP surgery and chemist are adjacent to each other and will happily attend the home when required or to review medication.
  • Regular District Nurse visits to support the staff with providing care to our residents such as dressings and suture removal, continence advice and assessment, and all issues relating to skin integrity etc.
  • Access to Advanced Nurse Practitioners who visit the home weekly or more often if required to provide support to the staff and give medical advice to you
  • We have an excellent relationship with the local pharmacy that delivers the residents' medication. They can provide you with advice on health issues and support the management team with medication safety and compliance in line with CQC requirements
  • Assess to Occupational Therapy services and equipment reviews if needed
  • Visiting phlebotomist to reduce the need for you to travel to the local surgery or hospital for routine blood tests
  • One to one support with hospital appointments and other medical appointments can be requested should your family or friends be unable to attend (at an additional cost)

If you have any medical concerns please feel free to contact the Home Manager for a confidential chat.

Care Home Best Practice

We’re committed to ensuring that the care we offer is the best it can be. As well as a thorough induction and ongoing training programme, we have policies and procedures in place to ensure that care meets the high standards we expect at Norwood Grange.

Our whistleblowing and safeguarding policies also ensure that all staff are trained to identify and report any concerns. This helps us to ensure that all of our residents live safely and happily, free from abuse or neglect.
