Norwood Grange Celebrates Pride Month

Pride Month celebrations took place at Norwood Grange care home during June, as staff and residents got together to have some fun and celebrate diversity and inclusivity. As well as plenty of rainbow decorations, the pride party included a rainbow-themed buffet, a drag act, and some much-loved karaoke.

Michelle Ketland, Activities Coordinator at Norwood Grange explains, “We’ve celebrated pride at Norwood Grange for the past three years and, this year in particular, residents have really enjoyed every moment.”

Sadly, COVID restrictions meant that the team was unable to get an entertainer to come in, but they didn’t let that stand in their way! One of the staff team took up the mantle, donned a dress, a wig and a spot of makeup, and took to the “dancefloor” to sing, dance and entertain the residents. It was the first (and maybe last!) time he has ever performed as a drag act but, as you can see from the photos, the residents had a wonderful time!

Michelle continues, “Some of our residents had questions about pride month, which prompted some discussions about love, inclusivity, and acceptance of people’s differences. It is our aim to ensure that everyone at Norwood Grange feel safe, valued, accepted, and able to live their lives with no judgment - pride month is a great way to reinforce those values.”
